  • Damascus Securities Exchange

    On 1/10/2006, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued Decree No. (55) (Securities Market Law), which provided for the establishment of a stock market in Syria, known as the Damascus Stock Exchange. The decree also stipulated that the market be a self-financing institution, provided that it covers any deficits through government loans. The law also provides for the possibility of converting the market into a joint stock company, when the appropriate conditions are available.
